Run away Gingerbread Men
We have had a lovely week this week and the children are quickly becoming fantastic independent learners.
In Maths this week we have been looking at more and less and have introduced the symbols < and >. (Crocodile eats more or - or the 2018 version with a shark) to compare two numbers.
In Literacy we have continued to look at the story of the Gingerbread man and have been acting out the story in groups. Yesterday, in preparation for baking next week, Mrs Duck and Mrs Rodgerson were testing out the schools prize winning recipe for Gingerbread men. Unfortunately their baking didn’t quite go to plan, when the Gingerbread men escaped from the oven. Luckily, the school CCTV gave us some clues and we eventually managed to safely track them all down. We caught all of the playful gingerbread men but
they were so muddy that even the teachers couldn’t eat them!
Take a look at the children hunting for the clues in the photos below. They were so excited they had to tell all the year 2’s during assembly time. The children will be using their understanding of the story to re –write it next week. We are so lucky to have fantastic school grounds and the opportunity to use outdoor learning to enhance the childrens’ understanding.
In Science and Topic we have been looking at the weather and are keeping a weather diary for the month. In Science we have made weather predictions and thought about what clothes we might wear on a cold day.
I was incredibly impressed by the positive attitude shown by Mrs Lucas’/Pitts phonics group this week. They all did incredibly well with their spellings and thank you very much for your support at home helping them to learn their new (and old) spellings.
