This week we have finished our literacy work on the Gingerbread Man.

The children have worked in groups to act out the story showing that they can stay on task, listen to each other’s ideas and use their imaginations.

After watching a recording of the gingerbread men escaping from the school oven, the children became detectives.

They were given the important task of locating the gingerbread men that were hiding around school. The children listened carefully, helped each other read out the clues and discussed their next step together. They showed that they were able to work as a team and were resourceful when finding clues and solving problems. It turned out that the gingerbread man was hiding in the year 1 classroom after all.

In maths we have continued with our number work counting on in 2’s from a given number. They have used their skills to help a puppy find its way to its mummy and to calculate how much their name is worth in 2p’s.

The children have been given a spelling book today to bring home. It has in it their first set of spellings which they will need to practise for a short test on Thursday. We would really appreciate it if you could help them with these at home, they can use the method suggested in the book or there are some great spelling apps that can be used to help them practise and then test them.
