18th November

Friday 18 Nov 2016

We had a very exciting start to the week with our 'Meet the Creature' event.  We all had a fantastic time baking cheesy scone animals, making animal collage pictures and meeting lots of wonderful creatures!  Look how gentle and brave we are!

In Literacy, we have continued our work on non-chronological reports and have started making notes on an animal we met on Monday.  We have been organising information under headings.  Next week we will be turning our notes in to full sentences and writing our reports.

In Numeracy we have continued adding and subtracting numbers using apparatus and pictures.  We also looked at the special relationship between adding and subtracting, called 'inverse'.

We have given out parts for our Christmas production of 'Manger Mouse' today.  Hopefully all the children will be happy with the parts they have been given.  We tried our very best to ensure all the children had a suitable part.  Children who requested a speaking part were given one and children who didn't want to speak were given a non-speaking part.  We could obviously not give everyone their first choice of parts but we endeavoured to cast sixty children as fairly as possible! Please help your child to learn their parts, if they have a speaking part.  They will need to have their lines in school, ready for when we start rehearsals.

This week the children took part in an anti-bullying assembly.  We have defined the term bully and talked about what makes a good friend.  The children have designed their own posters and have been given strategies on what to do if they ever encounter bullying.  We will be completing our ECM (every child matters) surveys in school next week.

It was lovely to meet so many of you at our parents' evenings this week, thank you for coming! Thank you also for everyone who came in non-uniform today to help raise money for 'Children in Need.'

Homework has been set again for this week.  Please note that your child is only expected to spend 20-30 minutes a week on Education City.  If they do not manage to complete all the tasks in that time it isn't a problem! If they wish to spend longer that's great but is not necessary.

We hope you have a lovely weekend,
the Y2 Team
