Welcome back!

We hope you've all had a lovely Christmas and enjoyed the time off together.

The children have had a great first week back and are beginning to slip back into their school routines.

In literacy this week, we have been learning more about SPaG - spelling, punctuation and grammar. We have been identifying adjectives and nouns within sentences and have had to explain why certain types of words need a capital letter. See if your child can explain why we use commas and ask them to talk to you about different tenses.

In maths, we have made a start on multiplication. Discussing what terminology such as 'multiple' and 'times' means. We have focussed on 2x, 5x and 10x tables this week. This has involved making calculations with numicon, drawing out the calculation and then writing it as a number sentence. The idea here is that children understand what is happening when we multiply two numbers together and can see the amounts getting larger for themselves. Some of us played a game called 'Table Mountain' which involves answering multiplication facts against an opponent to see who can reach the summit of the mountain first. This was highly competitive as you would imagine! If you'd like to 'challenge' your child, this is a game that can be found on the internet.

In art, we have been looking at symmetry and have made symmetrical paintings. Take a look at our efforts!

In music, we have learnt a new song called 'Hey you!' This is a rap which then turns into a song. We looked at musical notes and learnt the note 'E'. We then had a go at playing glockenspiels to accompany the song. The trickiest bit was trying to sing and play at the same time!
Here we are in action!
