Friday 6th November

Friday 06 Nov 2015

We hope that you have all enjoyed safe and exciting bonfire night celebrations this week.  Our Learning for Life sessions  have been based   on firework safety and the story of Guy Fawkes.

Our first week back has been very busy.  We have continued learning how to read the time on both analogue and digital clocks and have drawn hands on analogue clocks also.  In Literacy we started looking at information texts by sorting fiction and non-fiction books and sentences.  We did this by studying the features and layout of information books.

Our gingerbread dinosaur baking sessions are now complete.  We hope you enjoyed sampling them as much as the children enjoyed making them.  We will be baking again on Thursday, as part of our 'Meet the Creature' morning.  If your child is wearing nail varnish they will not be able to take part in the baking activity.  Your child does not require any money or a container for this baking project.

Our classrooms became excavation sites this week when we all pretended to be palaeontologists!  We learnt how fossils are formed (bones which are turned into stone over millions of years) and then had a go at excavating dinosaur remains from a small area of desert.  Using our special brushes we dusted off the bones and expertly rebuilt dinosaur skeletons!

Just a quick homework reminder...your child should be coming home every Friday with a new set of spellings in their little green books.  Please ensure these books are in school on a Friday so that we can inform you of their scores.  Maths Whizz should be used for 30 minutes a week at home.  Regular reading is also still very important in Year 2.

We have a very exciting day on Thursday...'Meet the Creature'.  If you have not yet returned your permission slip, please do so as soon as possible.  Payments can be made via Parentpay or in the school office.

If your child has lines to learn for the upcoming Christmas play, please help them to learn them, as rehearsals will begin in the next few weeks.

Many thanks - Y2 Team
