Remember, remember . . .

This week in Literacy, we've been learning all about contractions. We talked about how contractions are used to combine two words and an apostrophe is inserted to show where the missing letter (s) would be.
I have - I've
I am - I'm
did not - didn't
should not - shouldn't
Being able to spell these words is one of our Year 2 targets so any help at home would be greatly appreciated!
In Maths, we have been continuing our work on addition and subtraction and have introduced the children to 'diennes apparatus' (base ten). This equipment helps us to see the value of tens and ones in two digit numbers. We have been making two digit numbers and have started to use diennes to add and subtract.
In Art and topic we have been creating our own Great Fire of London scenes. This has involved making a colour wash and then designing a silhouette to mount onto the wash. Perfect timing for Bonfire Night!
We have decided to set homework tasks which increase in difficulty. All children will need to complete the first activity and if time allows, can continue onto more challenging tasks that will deepen their understanding in that particular area. As previously mentioned, homework will be set on a Friday.
In our learning for life session, we have discussed the importance of firework/bonfire safety. In computing, we used this knowledge to create a bonfire night safety poster.
We hope you all have a happy and safe bonfire weekend.
