Welcome to Year2!

Friday 09 Sep 2016

Welcome to Year 2!
We have had a great start to the new academic year. The children have settled well into their new classrooms and routines. We have been extremely impressed with their independence and positive start. Keep it up, Year2s!

In Literacy, we have started a unit of work all about stories with familiar settings. So far we have talked about nouns, adjectives and the use of question marks. We are about to start planning our own stories about an animal that comes to live in a cupboard under the stairs. Why not ask your child what is under your stairs?

In numeracy, we have been looking at place value and have found one more, one less, ten more and ten less using a hundred square and beaded strings. We will be continuing this next week and our work will include counting in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s. Why not practise this at home?

Our Great Fire of London topic has been introduced and the children loved 'Magic Granddad' who managed to 'ignite' their imaginations! (For a blast from the past, you can find him on Youtube!)

Please refer to our Year 2 welcome pack for information on other aspects of Year 2 life.

Feel free to attend next week's Year 2 welcome meeting if you would like additional information on the forthcoming year. It will be held in Mrs Wales and Mrs Siggs' classroom at 3:15 on Wednesday 14th September.

Spellings were sent out on Tuesday in a little green book. Please help your child to learn these spellings for a test on Monday.

Hopefully, your weekends should be a little quieter as the children have worked their socks off and are ready for a rest!

Many thanks,

The Year 2 Team
