Homework
Saturday 16 Sep 2017
In Year 4, we set 3 homework tasks each week that focus upon core skills.
Spellings:
Please be aware that the first Year 4 spelling test is on Monday 18th September.
We will be testing pupils on their spellings each Monday and it is incredibly important they bring their spelling homework book in on Monday morning with their homework completed.
It would help us if you could remind your child about their homework, check it is completed to the best of their ability and returned each Monday. We set aside time to look through these books on Monday and we struggle to assess pupils' homework if they return their book on a different day.
Reading:
Please aim to read with your child as regularly as you can. We recommend reading daily but understand this isn't always possible. Please aim for at least three times a week. This should include asking questions to check their understanding. We check children's progress on a weekly basis and adjust their books according to their understanding.
Don't forget to sign up to receive notifications of your child's comprehension quizzes (information on the letter sent out last week).
Times Tables:
We ask that you support your child in developing their fluency chanting and recalling times tables facts. This will support them in many areas of mathematics and will be invaluable throughout their life. Times Tables test takes place weekly, usually on Thursdays. We score pupils' attainment against 108 times tables facts during each test and monitor their progress weekly. The pupils who make most improvements are those who regularly chant their tables in and out of school.
Thanks as always for your continued support. Please pop in and see your child's teacher if you would like to discuss homework.
