Oh to catch a star!!
Saturday 14 May 2016
Well, another brilliant week in Y4! We have been very busy doing exciting things as usual.
In Literacy, Y4 have wrote their own explanation texts about a star catching machine. They had to design a machine for catching stars and then write an explanation of how it worked. The children were able to draw and label the designs and they look amazing! The explanations were fantastic and the children should be very proud of them. Some brilliant inventions and very imaginative ways to catch a star!!
Maths was all about co-ordinates and plotting them on a grid. We even did some translation of shapes. The children worked very hard and managed to move on to 6,7 and 8 sided shapes, wow!!
Cricket is the name of the game in PE this half term and we have some amazing cricketers in Y4. The throwing and catching skills we have covered recently have now come into play. Hopefully, the weather will stay good and we can play a match in next week's lesson!!
This week, we have been very lucky to have a drama teacher come in and work with the children. They retold the story of Jack and the Beanstalk through drama and role play. This led to a series of different scenarios for the children to question and resolve. They had to work in groups and decide the outcome for their village and families. The children were faced with some really hard decisions about who should be kept safe and how they should do this. The children were absolutely fantastic and came up with some mature and thought provoking ideas. Well done guys!!
Finally this week, we have finished our tarnished steel pictures and they look incredible!! The children had to be so patient, working with PVA glue is hard and tricky, as well as taking great care when polishing and tarnishing the steel!! However, it was truly worth it! Everyone around school has commented on them and said how wonderful they are. Well done Y4, you all did a fantastic job!!
One more full week before we are off to Thornbridge. Can you make sure all medical slips are returned to school A.S.A.P if you haven't already done so.
Enjoy the sunshine and have a lovely weekend!!
The Y4 Team.
