Second World War Finale!

Please note the following activities which will be taking place in Year 4 before the end of this term and our Second World War topic.

Make Do and Mend Sewing afternoons Friday 4th and 11th March

We shall be making toys out of old material and buttons. Please could your child bring an old unwanted shirt or t-shirt into school and 2 coloured buttons, if possible. We are also seeking help with sewing on these afternoons.

World War Two Bake Off Monday and Tuesday 14th and 15th March

The children will be making buns, cakes or pastries using recipes they have created in groups. They will need to bring in ingredients from home as decided by their group and should obtain these the weekend just before the above dates. In addition, girls should have long hair tied back that day and nail polish should not be worn. It would be helpful if children could bring an apron in from home as we only have a few in school. We are also looking for help from parents and grandparents to assist with baking on the two days.

VE Day Thursday 17th March

Our topic will end with VE Day celebrations. The day will involve a street party and celebration lunch. We would like the children to dress up as children from the era and to bring food in for the celebration lunch. As it is VE Day we envisage the food being from the time. Therefore sandwich fillings could be jam, ham etc. Savoury snacks would be things like veg sticks & sausages and cakes and biscuits would be fairly modest. All children should bring the food as their packed lunch for the day. At the end of the day we shall be dancing the Jive/Jitterbug in the Main Hall. You’re welcome to arrive early at 2.50pm to watch and join in.
