What is the perimeter?

Friday 15 Apr 2016

Well, we've had a busy week in year 4 this week.
In literacy we are looking at explanation texts and their features. We had to piece together a picture of a cat feeding machine and explain how it works. The children have really enjoyed this and have started to write the explanation as well. We have been reading Until I met Dudley which is a fantastic book with lots of explanations of how everyday objects work and the children have really enjoyed it. Who knew a friendly dragon toasted the bread with his fiery breath!!

In maths we have been outside measuring the playgrounds. We got into groups and using a trundle wheel, measured the perimeter of both yards. We got a variety of measurements from each group so we decided to find the mean average. This was quite tough!!! It was a lot of fun though and great to get outside a use maths in a real life setting.
Please ask your child to go into topic bank on Maths Whizz if they want to practice perimeter and area further. Also remind them to get back into the routine of doing Maths Whizz as we need to get those all important 30 minutes a week in the bag. It might be a good idea to move to 45 minutes now as this is the expectation in Y5.

In topic, we have been looking at the rivers of Sheffield and the landmarks near them. We researched using the computers and iPads and found lots of interesting facts.

Don't forget our trip on Monday to Sheffield  and a meeting with the Lord Mayor. Please ensure your child is at school by 8.30am as we are leaving at 9am prompt.  Make sure your child has a coat, sensible shoes and a packed lunch. Drinks should be in plastic bottles, No glass please. Hopefully the sun will shine and we can eat our lunch in the peace gardens!! We should be back in school for the end of the day.

Have a lovely weekend.
See you all on Monday.
