16th June 2017 Y5 update

Friday 16 Jun 2017

Hello.

It has been a busy week in Y5!
In maths we've been continuing our shape work. This morning we were investigating and making 3D shapes.
We have been learning about character descriptions in literacy, particularly how we can show, not tell, the reader how a character is feeling. We looked at using relative clauses, which can be dropped into a main clause, to add detail about a character!
We've been out and about this week as well: half of us went to a cricket tournament on Wednesday, and all of us visited Eyam on Thursday, as part of our topic about the village.
On both trips, the children were a credit to the school. At the cricket, the children displayed great sportsmanship.
In Eyam, they listened beautifully to the guided tour that we went on, asking very relevant questions, and showing off how much they already knew about the plague in Eyam!
In the afternoon, we visited the church and saw first hand the beautiful stained glass window, which was installed to remember and honour the sacrifice the villagers made during the plague outbreak. As part of our topic we have designed our own window and used a printing technique with our images.
On top of all this, many members of the year group have been rehearing for the school production of Bugsy Malone. See, it really has been a busy week!
We hope you all have a restful weekend, Y5 team.
