Archeological Dig!

Thursday 01 Oct 2015

This week saw the children take on the role of archeologists in our Mighty Mayan topic, carefully investigating what they could find in the soil.

Amazing us with their writing skills, the children worked on using long and short sentences to create suspense in their paragraphs.  This is in preparation for writing their own spy story next week.

In maths we have been looking at written methods of addition and subtraction, we seem to have all got it cracked! Next week we are moving on to multiplication.  Don't forget, the children need to complete 60 minutes of Maths Whizz, including the time in school, each week.

The children brought home their spellings' this week.  There has been a slight change to our timetable, 5R will be sending spellings on a Tuesday and will be tested a fortnight later, 5L will be sending spellings on a Wednesday and will be tested a fortnight later.  Children are encouraged to learn the number they think is appropriate for them, however they decide to learn them, be it writing them out, playing games or making crosswords we would like them to bring it in to show us what they have done.

Finally, we had the Sheffield Diving Team in school to search for the next Tom Daley. We're pleased to say some of the Y5 children got through to the next round of assessments and the whole year group enjoyed practising their balancing and working on their posture.

Have a great weekend.
