It's getting complex!
Saturday 20 Feb 2016
We've been working hard this week on using co-coordinating and sub-subordinating conjunctions to create compound and complex sentences. The children began identifying complex sentences in the topic books in class and then had to identify the main clause and subordinate clause. We found this quite tricky at first but have got much better at this. Once we'd got the hang of identifying complex sentences we wrote our own. Some of the sentences the children came up with were fantastic. Can you identify the main clause, subordinate clause and subordinating conjunction in our sentences:
The powerful cat foolishly pounced along the slippery wall even though he knew it was dangerous.
As a poacher tried to shoot him, the wild cat rapidly sprinted along the dirty wall.
The silky cat leisurely strolled along the slippery wall after nearly falling off.
In maths we began working in our new maths groups. We have been really impressed with everybody's attitude and every pupil has worked their hardest this week. Keep it up! We began the week looking at co-ordinates and have then moved on to reflection. Next week we will be moving on to translating shapes.
Our topic session this week saw the culmination of a few weeks of hard work on the children's creatures and their dens. After thinking carefully about their habitat, the children designed and made the creature's den and placed it within the school grounds. They then made their own documentaries, Steve Backshall style, as they searched the grounds for the different creatures.
