Perfect Poets

Thursday 12 Nov 2015

Over the last two weeks we have been studying performance poetry.  We have particularly focused on a poem called 'What d'ya wanna be' by Wilf, which is all about what you might want to be when you're older.  The children added their own verses to the poem and really impressed us with the variety of their ideas.

Performance poetry does not follow a set structure, although it will have a rhythm to it that makes it good to listen to.  Today the children put their writing skills to the test, writing their own poem on their chosen subject.  Next week they will have the opportunity to take part in a poetry slam, where they will each perform their poem for the rest of the class.  From what we have seen it will be a tough competition.

In maths we have come to the end of our work on multiplication and division. We all seem to have cracked the written methods, there is just one thing holding us all back, our times tables knowledge. We would like the children to try and practice their times tables for at least 5 minutes every day.We are now moving on to our topic on shape, beginning with 3d shapes. We had great fun building shapes based on their 2d representation.

Have a great weekend.
