Travelling back in time!

Thursday 26 Mar 2015

The Year 5s took a trip back in time last Friday and Monday with a visit to the Victorian Classroom. We donned our finest Victorian attire and headed off on the bus to an original Victorian classroom at Springfield School in Sheffield city centre. During the day we tried our hand at sewing (if we were a girl – after all ‘a woman’s place is in the home’!) and writing if we were a boy. We learnt about the importance of the three ‘R’s – reading, writing and arithmetic. Miss Sharp was very strict and instructed us that children were to be seen and not heard. Poor Nesbert Martin was caught fidgeting and was put in finger stocks, Florence got an answer wrong and was made to wear the dunce’s hat and poor Martha Barlow was given the cane after throwing a book across the room! After playing with traditional Victorian toys and experiencing a Victorian washroom, we returned to the 21st century, grateful that we go to school now and not in the 19th century!

As an additional note, we would like to remind parents that the Y5 talent show is taking place tomorrow, Friday 27th March at 2.30pm. You will be astounded by the talent which is on offer so we hope you can attend!

And finally, we would be grateful if you wouldn’t mind checking your child’s school trousers as we have somehow had a pair going missing following a PE lesson! They belong to Jake Beddow and are named.

Many thanks!
