Ancient Greece

Monday 18 Sep 2017

Year 6 have begun looking at Ancient Greece. So far, in art, everyone has designed their own Greek pot, ready to begin practising the skills needed to make one out of clay. We cannot wait to see how everyone is with the clay! We looked at some key events in Ancient Greece and produced a timeline, deciding when would be the best year to come out of a time machine. Many children chose the year the Olympics started. Finally, we have been learning about Greek myths in literacy. We started by looking at the story of the Trojan Horse and moved onto the labours of Heracles. We spent a lesson challenging Heracles by attempting press ups, folding paper, not blinking and even doing a wall sit for 20 minutes! Perhaps unsurprisingly, nobody could beat him! We have learnt about all the challenges he completed and are now in the process of creating our own individual challenges and writing about them. There have been some really creative monsters so far. We will build-up our myth over the next few days.

In maths, we are moving onto calculations and recapping the formal written methods and applying them to problem solving. Please continue to work on your times tables at home, as they will make everything easier.

Keep up the hard work Y6!
